The Big Bay area is a recreationist playground. For those who enjoy discovering the northwoods on snowmobile, we are located directly on the snowmobile trail. 140 miles of trails are groomed daily by the Big Bay 550 Snowmobile Club and they connect to Ishpeming, Marquette, and L'Anse. Hunting and fishing are favorite sport here with many opportunities for trout, walleye, northern pike, and more. For the more leisurely folks, there are hiking trails, canoeing, kayaking, cross country skiing, and biking opportunities as well. Bird watching is also a favorite.
The natural wonders of this area will impress anyone. There are waterfalls all along the famous Yellow Dog River within driving distance of the motel. Big Bay is nestled in the foothills of the Huron Mountains, which offer unique wildlife viewing opportunities. Of course, the big draw is Lake Superior, the sweetest water in the world!
Big Bay is a historic town beginning around 1850 with the lumber boom. The town abounded with lumberjacks and millwrights. Today, the scene is a little different but not much. The local people still make their living working with the woods. We enjoy having visitors here.
The owners of the Picture Bay Motel are Michelle and Marc Marrow. They are outdoor enthusiasts themselves and can offer advice for visitors new to the area. Give them a call or email to find out more. Motel accepts cash, checks, or visa/mastercard.
